EWING – The TCNJ women’s soccer team is on one hot streak. Collectively the team has blocked a significant amount of shots on goal, and has dominated the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) 4-0. They are also running a season record of 9-0.
Individual Lions are making history this season, too.
The Rutgers-Newark Scarlet Raiders game on Saturday, Sept. 30 was a special one for both players as Christine Levering and Jessica Goldman both moved up the ranks in their personal records.
The first goal of the game was Levering and Goldman working together, as Levering scored and Goldman assisted. In the same game these two seniors rose up the ladder for TCNJ all time lists.
Goldman has now tied for the eighth place in TCNJ history with this assist, her 22nd while
Levering is tied for second in points and goals of all time.
“It’s obviously special, but it’s just motivation to keep going forward and not stop there,” said Goldman.
As of this last game she has surpassed previous second place holder Traci Tapp, and now Levering the second most in history with 133 career points after scoring the second goal of this game.
“It shows how well this team has been group, because I can’t do it myself,” said Levering. “ “Knowing that there are people getting the points and assists really helps.”
Levering is now four points away from Dana DiBruno’s all-time TCNJ record.
TCNJ women’s soccer has been fortunate to have these two players on its team for the past four and five years, in Levering’s case.
“They both have done well. They’re very very good players,” said head coach Joe Russo. “The best thing is, as good a player as [Levering and Goldman] are, they’re better kids, and good people. They mean a lot to our program.
“We don’t talk a lot about rankings and stats, but I know when it’s all said and done and we reflect on it, it’s a big deal.”
Levering and Goldman will have more opportunities this season to score and assist, starting with the Lions next non-conference game against Gettysburg on Wednesday, Oct. 4 at 7:30 p.m.
