Get Off the Couch and to an NFL Stadium for Perspective

After watching the Eagles defeat the Redskins in person
in Week 1 of the 2019 NFL season, I was truly baffled at the difference between the view of the field from the stands compared to the one viewer at home receives. The realization that all football games – peewee, college, pro – are played on a field of the same dimensions is one I never thought I would have to have to truly help me understand how fast things happen in the NFL. But, nonetheless, it was shocking.

Watching a professional football game on television, the field looks vast and the distance the players travel seems to go on forever. While the game is still impressive on a regulation size field, 99-yard punt returns and 75-yard catches look far more impressive on the state-size field portrayed on television screens.

The size of a football field is such a small detail in the grand scheme of the NFL but to those who have never been to a game in person, the contrast may be pretty extreme.
