Battista is a 2014 graduate of Saint Peter’s Prep in Jersey City NJ and plans to graduate from the College of New Jersey in 2018 with a major in Journalism and Professional Writing. Living in the shadow of New York City exposed him not only to New York sports, but to national sports as well. An avid hockey and football fan, he has interests in most sports in the US and watches whatever the big “event” or “game” that week is.

In High School, Battista was the head photographer for the school’s yearbook and covered not only major sporting events but school life as well. This left him with a basic understanding of what pictures can and cannot sell a sporting event, something that still follows him to this day. He also wrote articles for the book as a lead editor, mostly for classes around the school.

At The College of New Jersey, he began working at the school newspaper, the Signal as a beat reporter for the women’s soccer team. Early on, his interest in the editing of the paper lead him to become a sports assistant learning the ins and outs of style, propper newspaper layouts, headline etiquette and over musts in the world of print (and beyond). After his freshman year, Battista became one of two Sports Editors at the paper and continues that for the rest of the 2015 Fall semester.

Looking forward, he hopes to be able to cover a major sport, preferably hockey or football, for a newspaper (hopefully New York). You need to dream big if you want to make it in this industry.
