Fitting together the puzzle pieces of the Antonio Brown debacle which that was his Raiders “career” is tricky, and ill-fitting. It actually should probably be described as starting to pull out the wrong Jenga block, but instead of bailing on that one and going for one of the blocks that moves easily, you just say, “screw it!” and yank it out.
From frozen feet, to illegal helmets, to calling the GM a racial slur to potentially illegally wiretapping his head coach and then releasing it on YouTube, the AB saga had pretty much everything. It played itself out on social media on Saturday morning September 7th in the wildest sports happening, maybe, ever.
Everyone loved a picture book when they were kids, and that’s essentially what social media is, right? So let’s use the 2019 version of the picture book to document the insanity of this drama.
And, of course, methinks there’s probably more to come.

Just wrapped #Raiders training camp presser w/ GM Mike Mayock & HC Jon Gruden. When asked about @AB84 ‘s hot air balloon arrival Gruden said, “Did he land? Is he ok? That’s all I care about!” Gruden says he expected something crazier than a hot air balloon. @nflnetwork pic.twitter.com/Dz6QySTIUs

#Raiders consider suspending Antonio Brown after he was held back from a near-altercation with GM Mike Mayock https://t.co/saNCNM6AvK — Vic Tafur (@VicTafur) September 5, 2019
.@StaceyDales on with @RosenhausSports live on @nflnetwork: “Not a lot is clear yet, other than the Raiders said AB should stay home today. We haven’t heard anything about a potential decision yet… We’re trying to work through this. The goal is to work everything out.”
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) September 5, 2019
Reported yesterday that Antonio Brown initiated the near-altercation with Mike Mayock. And yes, there were a lot of cuss words. “Cracker” being one of them, as @JosinaAnderson just reported. #Raiders https://t.co/saNCNM6AvK — Vic Tafur (@VicTafur) September 6, 2019
There are those around the league who now believe the Raiders could suspend Antonio Brown with the idea of trying to void the $30.125 million of guaranteed money in his contract.
Which obviously would end his time in Oakland.

It’s just a matter of time before this Antonio Brown stuff blows up again. By keeping him on the roster for Week One, the Raiders will have no way to avoid paying him $14.625 million this year.

Antonio Brown asks for his release after #Raiders fined him $215,073.53 for conduct detrimental to the team, per ESPN. Raiders voided the $29.125 million worth of guaranteed money in his deal. — Vic Tafur (@VicTafur) September 7, 2019
I just got an email from Antonio Brown. He tells me the team “took away my guarantees.” He added there’s “no way I play after they took that and made my contract week to week.” So at this moment, once again, don’t expect AB to play on Monday Night Football.

David says brother Derek Carr was in the building early today, trying to wrap his brain around what’s happening with AB. Don’t know if releasing Brown is in the Raiders’ best interests. If they give him a five-day later and he refuses to return to the team, they could put him on the active/left squad list. Brown couldn’t go play for another team all season and there is no obligation to pay him. — Vic Tafur (@VicTafur) September 7, 2019
The Raiders have released WR Antonio Brown from the team today.
