EWING – As the season begins to wind down for The College of New Jersey women’s soccer team, the final games are the most critical and with the team being undefeated, it only adds to the importance of getting that “W “at the end of each game.
Emotions will need to be in check as the team heads into the game against Ramapo College, a New Jersey Athletic Conference [NJAC] team, on Saturday at the Lions’ Soccer Complex at 1 p.m. The Lions will be honoring the seniors and their families for the annual Senior Day that is held during the last home game of the season.
The team knows that the focus will first be on maintaining its overall 10-0-3 record. The Lions also go into the matchup against Ramapo 5-0-1 in the conference.
“We have given up one goal this entire season and still remain undefeated in the conference,” midfielder Taylor Lusardi said. “This is a great accomplishment for us, but we have so much more to accomplish this season. Focus is key at this point in the season.”
Ramapo has had a fairly good season with a conference record of 3-1-2 and an overall record of 8-3-1. The Roadrunners will enter the game fresh off a 4-0 win against New Jersey City University.
Even though the two teams haven’t had much history in the past, according to Lusardi, they are still another team that the Lions must focus on as another team they must beat as the end of the regular season draws near.
“Going into this weekends draw against Ramapo is another obstacle that we have to take care of,” Lusardi said. “Ramapo is another respectable team in the NJAC that we have to come in focused for and ready to play.”
After a 5-0 win over Rutgers University-Camden, the Lions look to continue their dominating success into the post season.
“The goal is to be playing our best soccer so we can go into the post season at our peak performance,” Lusardi said.
Even with the pressure of the post season being right around the corner and a perfect season being one of the team’s goals, it will still be a special day for the seniors to reflect on their time playing for the Lions.
Families have a chance to share this moment with the players, honoring their dedication and hard work the women have exhibited throughout the years.
“It’s going to be a fun and emotional day for us all,” Lusardi said. “With our final days of collegiate soccer dwindling down, it really opens your eyes to how quickly time passes and how you want to make the most of each and every day. Saturday is just another step we have to take in the right direction, and I can’t wait to continue this journey with my team.”
