EWING – The College of New Jersey continued its field hockey dominance on Tuesday showing no mercy to an Eastern team that came into Lions’ Stadium riding an eight game winning streak.
The Lions defeated the Eastern, 6-0, as they were in control the whole entire game dominating both sides of the ball in winning their 10th game in as many tries in 2015.
Jaclyn Douglas got the Lions off to an excellent start scoring the first two goals for TCNJ. The first goal came just 7:09 into the first half. She would later add another goal with 12:26 remaining. The two scores give Douglas 11 goals on the year, as well as her 94th career point.
“A lot of the goals I score are touches in from other teammates shots or passes, so the ball travels through most of the team to get to the goal,” Douglas said. “I’m just the last one to usually touch it. So a lot of my success comes from my teammates getting the ball to me in front of the cage.”
The scoring wouldn’t stop there. Taylor Barrett and Lexi Smith would get in on the fun both netting goals for the Lions. Alicia Wagner also had an excellent performance as she finished the game with two goals.
Nicole Berger, goalie for Eastern, put forward an excellent performance with 15 saves, but she was outdone by an impressive game from the entire roster of the Lions.
The College of New Jersey was unstoppable in every aspect of the game. On offense, it seemed as if the Lions were always in Eagles territory, as they had 21 shots on goal. On defense, the Lions wouldn’t give the Eagles any breathing room allowing a total of five shots with only three being on goal.
Douglas was extremely happy with how the Lions played Tuesday. Eastern was ranked 20th coming into the game, but the nation’s top ranked Lions’ squad quickly showed their dominance. The Eagles couldn’t find an answer for the Lions aggressive style of play.
With seven games remaining in the regular season, the Lions have a great chance of being undefeated entering the playoffs, but that isn’t the only goal the team has for the year. One thing remains on the mind of all the players.
“I think we can make it to the Final Four,” Douglas said. “That would be a team goal of mine. I know a lot of girls would love to return to the Final Four and show the other teams that we are always a strong program year after year.”
Although this team isn’t made up of the same players as last year, they would love nothing more then to duplicate the success of last year’s team.
TCNJ remains confident as it takes on a Montclair State team on the road this Friday. The Lions will look to snap Montclair’s eight game winning streak and remain unbeaten on the year.
